THE RAMTHUN FAMILY

In 1974, Ken and Carol Ramthun purchased their farm, which happens to be just down the road from the farm Ken grew up on and was raised. Today, Ken and Carol have grown their operation and have genuinely made it a family business with three generations of Ramthuns actively working today! For the Ramthuns, the three generations working alongside each other daily make their business what it is today. "The collaboration of three different generations has allowed for unique perspectives and opportunities as each family member brings their talents and ideas to help the farm succeed."

When Ken and Carol bought the farm, they started with only a few heads of cattle. Through countless hours of hard, dedicated work, they raised their six children on the farm and grew it to a point that it would be able to sustain the families of their sons Tim and Tom who decided they wanted to raise their families on the farm as well. In 2009, Tim and Tom joined Ken as partners as they officially created Ramthun’s Hickory View Farm, LLC. The family continues to grow as Tim and his wife, Val, have two daughters and Tom and his wife, Amanda, have five sons who are beginning to help with farm chores. They work alongside three of their other cousins, Tyler, Ben, and Noah who have grown up on the farm. The collaboration of three different generations has allowed for unique perspectives and opportunities as each family member brings their own talents and ideas to help the farm succeed. We now partner with a couple other farms to ensure that the calves that we get are raised and cared for in the best of circumstances from birth until market.

Being able to work together with our families and to see the next generations desire to continue our farming legacy is our greatest pride. There is also no better compliment than when people who buy our meat go out of their way to reach out and tell us how good our beef tastes.  

Farming allows us to be immersed in the beauty of God’s creation every single day and allows us an opportunity to produce products that will fill so many needs. We are able to work directly with the land and see the fruits of our labor. Farming also allows us a great opportunity to raise our families in an environment where they learn the value of hard, honest work.

We strive to raise the highest quality meat in the best environment possible. Our joy is for our cattle to have "No Bad Days". Using modern cattle comfort shelters with high quality feed and bedding, we look to remove any stresses on the cattle.

We love having an avenue to directly reach consumers and showcase the beef that we know is superior to what they can find in normal markets.

We love how the cattle help us complete a nutrient circle by being able to take the land’s produce to feed the cattle. Then in turn, the cattle provide organic nutrients for the crops thus improving the fertility and health of the soil, all while providing a product to help feed our families and the world.
